LUXURY TRAVEL - BELGIUM THE
DOMINICAN – BRUSSELS
Luxurious Hotel Sanctuary in the Belgian Capital Tucked behind Brussels’ famous opera house La Monnaie, on a small
side street, the Rue Leopold, surrounded by the guild houses of the Grand
Place, the hotel called simply “The Dominican” makes use
of its historical roots with a modern and evocative eclectic design.
Taking its theme from a 15th Century Dominican Abbey which once stood
on the spot. From the outside, unimposing, but arriving in The Dominican
with a first step into the lobby you’re surrounded by the atmosphere
of intimate elegance recognizing a design of unique flair. The monastery
hasn’t existed for a several hundred years and the hotel itself
is a new construction built where a 19th century house was home to the
famous French painter, Jacques-Louis David, but the Carlton Group who
operates the hotel, has created a sanctuary in the heart of Brussels
which feels rather like a cloister of luxury. Gregorian style calming
music plays in the halls and from the wide screen HD TV as you step into
your room. It’s almost a shame to break the mood to watch anything
on it. The Dominican’s Grand Lounge and Lounge Bar are the perfect places
to relax with a drink under the soaring ceilings infused with indirect
sunlight or refresh with a nibble. The Monastery Corridor, the only actual
remnant of the location’s historical past is incorporated into
the restaurant lounge and lobby. The restaurant and bar are often filled
with locals who come for the special atmosphere as the twilight softens
to the glamour of evening. The historic district of Brussels with its
pedestrian zone restaurants and the Galleries Royales are just out the
door, with the underground at De Brouckère a block away, the central
train station an easy walk and the Grand Place, a five minute stroll. Set around an inner
courtyard, the hotel has 150 rooms and suites of rich elegance in warm
muted tones
of deep browns and natural woods with
cosmopolitan furnishings. Large beds with feather duvets, especially
designed carpets featuring pattern inspired by the Dominican Abbey Order,
and spacious bathrooms with a choice of either walk in rain showers or
deep bath, made to seem even larger with infinity mirrors. Wind down
with a workout
or sedate
your
soul
with a meditative
sauna in the Gym , which unlike most hotels with a spa in the bowels
of the basement, requiring an walk across the public lobby with provided
robes and slipper, the Dominican’s
Gym with the most modern equipment and soothing surroundings is on one
of the upper floors, allowing just a walk down hall from your room.
Free
WiFi is available throughout the hotel, with a very helpful and friendly
staff available 24 hours. Parking for the Dominican is available by a
bit of an exercise, with private parking arranged at a nearby garage
with city prices. As a Brussels luxury hotel, The Dominican offers some
quite reasonable prices in comparison to other upscale properties in
central Brussels. © Bargain
