STEIGENBERGER GRANDHOTEL HANDELSHOF - LEIPZIG
Restored Luxury in the City of Music
The
venerable group of German luxury hotels is the new star in the city
of Leipzig. After extensive
renovations, the Steigenberger Grandhotel
Handelshof Leipzig offers a mix of traditional
and ultra modern style behind the painstakingly restored historic 1909
façade of the former Leipzig merchant exchange, in the center
of the old town close to the Naschmarkt with its Altes Rathaus old city
hall, the Baroque Old Stock Exchange, statue of Goethe and annual Medieval
and Christmas markets. This
5 Star class hotel with the Steigenberger imprimatur offers 163 spacious
Superior
and Deluxe
rooms with contemporary stylish design,
9 suites, 4 junior suites and a Presidential Suite. Dine in a choice
of two restaurants – the Brasserie Le Grand, offering an international
menu of Mediterranean and local Saxony specialties complimented by the
selection of 150 wines from the Vinothek, or the Lobby Bar in the central
skylight atrium. Relax in the Spa World, spa and wellness area on two
floors with sauna and steam, cross-trainer gym, heated lounges and ice
showers with a full array of beauty, relaxation and massage treatments.
Sometimes called
the “City of Music” as home to many of
the great classical composers, from Johann Sebastian Bach. Mendelssohn
and Schumann to Wagner and Gustav Mahler who all lived and worked in
the city. The city’s international music reputation is anchored
by the famous Gewandhaus Orchestra, based in the Gewandhaus Concert Hall
on Augustusplatz, with a history tracing back to the "Grosse Concert" ("Great
Concert") of 1743. The orchestra often accompanies the St Thomas'
Boys Choir in St Thomas' Church and performs in productions of the Leipzig
Opera House. The St. Thomas’ Boys Choir will celebrate its 800th
anniversary in 2012 with concerts and events held throughout the year.
Leipzig honors its musical heritage with annual festivals – Mahler
in May, Bach in June and Mendelssohn in September.
The revitalized city
combines its music reputation and recent post-socialist history as
starting
point of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989 with its
place in literature, as the city where Johann Goethe first began his
writing career while studying law at the university and found inspiration
for Dr. Faust on his many visits to the underground restaurant-bar, the
Auerbachs Keller bar in the Mädler Passage. Leipzig has been beautifully
restored and today shines with its historic sites from the St Thomas
Church to the historic town hall, its impressive shopping arcades and
courtyards, as well as its cutting edge art scene.
The Steigenberger
Grandhotel Handelshof Leipzig is conveniently located with a short
walk from Leipzig’s central train station, and as
with much of the former East Germany a stay at the 5 star luxury Steigenberger
can be a bargain, with prices starting as low as € 119 with early
bird discount for advanced booking. © Bargain
