History and Luxury in Manchester Center
While most of the
Radisson Edwardian exclusive boutique luxury brand hotels are in London,
the Manchester Radisson Edwardian offers comfornt convenience and modern
luxury located in a unique mix of the old and new in the heart of historic
downtown Manchester. This new high architectural style hotel is combined
with the beauty iof former Free Trade Hall facade the site of one of
the great change events in social history.In
1819, not long after the Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo, a crowd
of English “radicals” gathered in St. Peters Fields Manchester
to hear a speaker Henry Hunt demand reforms in England. The industrial
class and land owners wanted to maintain wartime prices and the common
folk sought the “radical” idea of all men being allowed
the vote. The crowd was charged by horse troops, resulting in what
became
known as the Peterloo Massacre.
Successive buildings
on the spot where associated with the idea of free trade and Manchesters
growth
in the industrial revolution. The building
constructed in 1853 on Manchester’s Peter Street became known as
the Free Trade Hall, reconstructed again after bomb damage in WWII becoming
a concert hall where performers from Bob Dylan to the Sex Pistols and
ABBA performed. In 1997 the aging building was demolished except for
its beautiful columned façade along Peter Street which has become
of signature of the Radison Edwardian Hotel in central Manchester.
The
Radisson Edwardian Manchester is located within steps of the convention
center as well as the Central Library at St. Peters Square and the shopping
and theater complex in the former Great Northern Railways Goods Warehouse.
An easy walk to Manchester’s fascinating sites like the Rylands
Library and restaurants and night clubs of the revitalized Deansgate
Locks and Castlefield area. Though the hotel owes some of its past character
to the remaining Free Trade Hall façade enclosing one of the properties
two restaurants, once inside the hotel’s style is decidedly modern,
with a high atrium of elegant oriental theme. The spacious rooms and
suites offer all the amenities of comfort and convenience expected of
a luxury hotel.
