CLONTARF CASTLE HOTEL
History and Luxury in Dublin's Chic Manor Castle
Ireland’s High King, Brian Boru won one of the great early contests
of Ireland, the famous Battle of Clontarf against the Vikings who controlled
Dublin and Mael Morda the King of Leinster on a Good Friday in April
of 1014. But that Friday didn’t end so good for Brian Boru as a
gang of retreating vikings found the king’s tent in a wooded area
and after overpowering his guards, killed the old king from whom Ireland
traces its gaelic royal heritage. Time has passed, the vikings are long
gone, Leinster is famous for its Irish Rugby team, and former flat riverland
of Clontarf is a Dublin suburb.
The
Clontarf Castle Hotel is an early Victorian manor house of gray stone
from 1837 reconstructed in the style of a previous
medieval castle on the spot near the Battle of Clotarf. Extensively
updated in 2006, Clointarf Castle Hotel is one of Dublin’s most
elegant of luxury hotel properties located 5 miles from Dublin Airport
and 15 minutes from downtown in the residential area of Clontarf. Parts
of the original old castle are mixed with Renaissance revival of the
Victorian
era mansion
and moden
steel
and glass and art of the hotel. The 111 deluxe rooms and distinctive
suites occupy both old and new sections of the hotel. The suites all
have unique individual designs in an ecletic mix of old world meets post
modern funk, with wide screen TVs, many with four poster beds and Victorian
style free standing tubs and separate shower. Upper rooms have views
to the hills of Howth (see Howth
Village) beyond Dublin harbor.
The
Restaurants and Bars of Clontarf Castle Hotel offer a variety of dining
choices and are popular with locals as well as hotel guests. The
Farenheit Grill serves local fresh caught fish and aged dry beef from
Dublin’s finest butchers in an elegant and relaxed dining room.
The Indigo Lounge was named the hotel bar of the yer in 2008 for its
i chic and rich colored mix of opulent Eastern and Bomenian style,
serving
coffee
and
pasties
from
the
morning
to late
drinks
rivaling the city’s best night spots. The Knights Bar upstairs
in the orginal castle offers a pub style warmth with open fireplaces
and stained glass windows. Stone arched cubby holes provide romantic
hideaways. Weddings are popular Clontarf castle with wedding packages
available bride and groom thrones for photos on the old Irish
kings stair. Or just hide away in the dungeon for a honeymoon.
The Clontarf estate is mostly gone with the hotel surrounded by houses
and apartments in a quiet neighborhood, two blocks from the park lined
waters of Dublin Harbor, removed from bustling downtown Dublin. Express
Taxis is an in house service based at Clontarf providing "meet and
greet" services at Dublin Airport and transport in and around Dublin.
The city bus line 130 to Dublin Center stops across from the grounds
entrance for a 20 minute ride or a two block walk for a 12 minute trip.

stadium.
