Berlin’s Luxury Palace Hideaway
As
Berlin has regained its stature as a European capital of vibrant energy, massive
new buildings and multi-storied grand new hotels have sprouted
for the rush and bustle of visitors. For a more relaxed stay in luxury
style, tucked away on a quiet street in the central former “west” Berlin,
the Brandenburger Hof boasts one of the best restaurants in Berlin as
well as quiet out of the bustle luxury rooms and classic service in a
former palace of the Prussian aristocracy. The old 19th Century elegant
façade of
the building on Eislebener Straße, a block from the busy famous
Kurfürstendamm Boulevard looks deceptively like just another of
the apartment houses that surround, hides the warm colors and soft lighting
of its rebuilt interior of Bauhaus style designed rooms and suites. The
hotel is rated as #1 small business hotel in Berlin, a not so secret
secret.
The
Die Quadriga restaurant is counted as one of the five best in Berlin,
with a michelin star for its grand French and Mediterranian cuisine,
recently redecortaed and offering an exclusive wine list of 850 German
vintages. The Quadriga’s
garden lounge in the hotels central courtyard is a Japanese themed tree
green garden oasis surrounded by glass giving the central common areas
a sense of outdoor Berlin atmosphere while relaxing with friends or business
associates with drink in cozy comfort, warm in winter and cool in summer.
In spite of its name, the Brandenburger Hof is not really near the Brandenburg
Gate, but an easy stroll to Berlin’s landmark Blaukirche Memorial
Churh tower, the Zoolischer Garten and upscale boutique shopping on Kurfurstendamm.
The hotel offers chauffeur service, private art tours and city discovery
programs as well as theater tickets concierge. For the feeling of special
pampering the Thaleia spa serves only one guest at a time, so plan to
reserve ahead. A taxi from Tegal Airport runs about 15 Euro, but a limousine
arrival can be arranged for 55 Euro.
