OAKLEY COURT HOTEL
Luxury Manor Retreat and Film History on the Thames
The Oakley Court is a glorious Victorian Gothic revival manor house set in 35 acres of English countryside overlooking the River Thames. It is located in the parish of Bray, near the Bray Film Studio, ten minutes from Windsor Castle and just under an hour from London. The mansion was originally built in 1859 for Sir Richard Hall Say and changed many hands through the years. It remains much as it began, but has now been reborn as a delightfully charming luxury hotel. Its stunning architectural details and immaculate gardens have attracted notable guests, including royalty and celebrities. The hotel's unique and dramatic ambiance makes it an ideal setting for cinematic tales of mystery and romance.
Film History
In August 1949, Oakley Court became home to the British film production company Hammer Films. Hammer shot five films there, before moving to the adjacent Down Place - what subsequently became Bray Studios. While the bulk of Hammer's best known horror movies were filmed at Bray in the late 1950s and early '60s, the studio continued to make occasional use of Oakley Court, for example in The Brides of Dracula (1962), The Reptile (1966), in the 1970s mystery farce, Murder by Death and 1975, it is most recognizable as the castle manor of Dr. Frank N. Furter's in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
