The Hotel Ambassador in Vienna is a historic luxury hotel that has been open since 1875. One of the hotel's most famous guests was the American author Mark Twain who visited Vienna in the late 19th century while on one of his speaking tours. In his book "Innocents Abroad," Twain wrote about his experiences at the hotel, praising the staff and the accommodations. He even went as far as to say that the Hotel Ambassador was "the best hotel in Europe."
Twain was present in Vienna on a second visit for the funeral procession of “Sisi” Empress Elizabeth of Austria, assassinated in Geneva in 1898, which he observed from the balcony, which still exists, outside the restaurant on the first floor. If the restaurant if closed, ask the bartender and he’ll let you take a look toward the crypt of the Capuchin Church across the Neuer Markt square, a view Twain would have had. © Bargain
