THE
BRISTOL HOTEL – BRISTOL
Style and Location at the Floating Harbor
Some hotels are blessed with style, some have the ideal location. The Bristol
Hotel in the heart of its namesake city has both, located directly next to
the famed Floating Harbor, that Victorian engineering feat which kept the harborside
of Bristol at the same level as the rising and falling tides of the River Avon
as it empties into the sea, once an industrial shipping center, now a revitalized
tourist district. The Bristol Hotel is a 10 minute walk from Bristol’s
most popular attraction, the SS Great Britain, the 19th Century nautical marvel
of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, once the largest ocean going ship, now in permanent
dry dock on the Bristol Quay. But not only nautical history, but lively nightlife
scene is just a bridge walk away. The Floating Harbor district of Bristol now
bristles with hip stylish restaurants and bars where the city’s residents
come when the sun goes down. Designer store arcades, art galleries and theaters
the city’s Queen’s Square, Aquarium and Bristol Cathedral are a
short walk away.
The
Bristol Hotel, part of the Doyle Collection of elegant hotels, offers
187 modern designed
airy and light filled rooms, many
with floor to ceiling window
views of the harbor. The rooms come in many sizes from cozy to spacious,
with the harbor facing rooms in the premium category, a bit pricier
than those facing
the courtyard or Prince Street. Rooms feature flat-screen TVs and beds with
duck down duvets and white linen. Bathrooms include power shower and designer
toiletries.
The modernist and
urban square façade from busy Prince Street
doesn’t
quite hint at the chic and stylish interior. An open floor plan extends through
intimate seating areas to the River Grille looking out on the waterfront
and the adjoining Shore Bar. Dining in the hotel at the River Grill offers
updated
English inspired cuisine including Somerset Beef and West Country artisan
cheeses and local fresh fish, and also serves as the breakfast room. The
elegant River
Lounge offers light snacks, afternoon teas and an excellent list of fine
wines. The Shore Bar provides live music in the evenings. A wide variety
of restaurants
are a short stroll away.
Bristol is a culturally
diverse city with a large young university population making for a
lively destination on its own, rich
in music, theatre and the
visual arts, and the Bristol Hotel can serve as a base for exploring England
West Country. The Georgian architecture of Bath is short drive away, with
Berkeley Castle 25 minutes. Free parking is provided in the connected multi-deck
NCP
car lot. Drive in and collect a normal entrance ticket and exchange it
with at the hotel reception for a complimentary parking ticket, though
the exit
from the parking structure is not directly into the hotel. This small detail
is made up for by the welcoming chilled lemonade in the lobby, for slaking
a quick thirst from a day’s exploring.

The Bristol Hotel
offers some special theme stay packages including a Discover the Dock
package for exploring the quayside, and romantic
Bubbles and Berries
and Passion, including chocolate dipped cherries and room service along
with the Do Not Disturb sign. See the hotel website for details. © Bargain
